Weald Challenge Trail Races

Welcome to The Langham Hotel Weald Challenge

Trail Half Marathon and 50km Ultra Trail -  Sunday 12th June 2022

Entries to the 2022 Weald Challenge, Sunday 12th June 2022, will open on Friday 1st October 2021. Entries for both the half marathon and the 50km ultra will be available via the RaceDirector website,

The 2022 edition of the Weald Challenge will be take place in accordance with the Covid requirements as specified by UK Athletics at the time, which hopefully will be minimal or possibly no required social distancing.

Having made a number of changes to the 2021 Weald Challenge in order to deliver a very successful Covid Secure event, for the 2022 edition we have decided to continue to implement two of these changes, specifically, sending out race numbers in the post during the week before race day, and significantly reducing the food provided at the checkpoints. For 2022, the checkpoints will continue to be cupless for both race distances, but will only provide water (no CocaCola), and will only provide TORQ bars and TORQ gels (no fruit, no jelly babies, no cake, no crisps, etc).

Weald Challenge 2018 Trail Half Marathon Start

The Langham Hotel Weald Challenge Trail Races follow the long distance paths of the Wealdway and the Vanguard Way. Both races start and finish in the village of Chiddingly and encompass the surrounding beauty of the Sussex countryside en route. The courses are approximately 75% (half marathon) and 85% (ultra) off-road, and as the runners travel along the picturesque and undulating routes, they will take in a great variety of landscapes containing rolling hills, irregular shaped fields and ancient woodlands. Runners participating in the 50km Ultra Trail race will experience the added bonus of the spectacular views from the open heathland of the Ashdown Forest.

Water and TORQ bars / TORQ gels at checkpoints explanation. For 2022 there will be no CocaCola provided, also there will be no fruit, jelly babies, cake, or crisps provided. We have adopted this approach for 2022 due to the significant reduction in rubbish / waste during the 2021 event where only water was provided at checkpoints. Also, when reflecting on what is provided at the London Marathon, where only water (all feed stations) and Lucozade Sport (some feed stations) is provided, with the 50km ultra trail being only 5 miles (8 km) further than the marathon distance, it was felt that there wasn't the need to provide a fully stocked 'picnic' at the Weald Challenge checkpoints.

A selection of feedback from previous Weald Challenge Trail Races

"Thanks for organising the Weald Marathon.  It was the best Marathon I have ever done.  Looking forward to WC 2015.  RICHIE.  PS. I HAVE COMPLETED OVER 100 MARATHONS"

"This is the first marathon that my wife Caz and I have attempted. I am so pleased it was the first Weald Challenge. It was a fantastic day, it was hard, but so rewarding. The support station volunteers were warm, welcoming and friendly. Thank you everyone involved. The Weald Challenge will now hold a special place in my heart. An experience that I will never forget!", Jason

"Thanks Stuart and team for a great day. I rolled my ankle twice, got shocked by an electric fence, fell over, got lost twice and put my hand in a massive bird poo on a stile...but I loved every minute. I'll never forget my first ultra! Love the mug too, great prize, look forward to the medal too. See you next year!", Chris

"Thank you very much. It was my first Half Marathon, I loved it and the Race was Absolutely Wonderful. I wish to entry next year on Marathon Race. The coffee cup very nice and the food, the organisation everything very positive. Muchas Gracias", Jesus

"Once again thanks for making my first trail half marathon such a good experience; it has spurred me on to seek out further such events." Trevor

"Brilliant race again today, loving the mug this year. Defo be back for next year.", Justine

"I would like to give a big thank you to you & all the volunteers & helpers that made the event on Sunday such an enjoyable one, this was my first marathon & to say I was nervous before hand would be an understatement but everyone was so cheery & enthusiastic, it really did help us go the extra mile, none more so than the fantastically cheerful young lady who helped on the last checkpoint, we had a really good laugh & she  really helped lift my spirits for the final push, so once again thank you for all your hard work.", Andy

"A massive thank you for putting on a great event on Sunday.  I haven't enjoyed an event as much as that in a long time.  The course was stunning. I will be returning next year for sure. Many thanks to you and all the volunteers for a great day out in the countryside and I look forward to seeing you in September.", Gemma.
